Jeffco Airport Spotters Guide

BJC Frequencies Current Activity
General OVerview:
Located halfway between Boulder and Denver on the Boulder Turnpike (a.k.a. US 36), Jeffco Airport serves as the main General Aviation airport for the north side of the Denver Metro Area. The Airport handles less traffic than Centennial and DIA, however it is home to a USAF Tanker base that bases the Lockheed P-3 Orion during the summer fire season. In addition to this, as NIMBY rules around Centennial prohibit large aircraft, Boeing Business Jets occaisionally do use BJC as their entry into Denver.
In addition to this, Key Lime Air has recently begun serving the airport with daily scheduled services on the Swearingen Metroliner to Walker Field in Grand Junction, operating as Denver Air Connection. They do have a 3 million dollar maintenance facility at APA and APA is the preferred airport, however as per those NIMBY rules again, APA's limit to scheduled service is aircraft with 9 or fewer passengers (and nobody wants to ride 3 hours on a Piper Navajo when they can ride for 45 minutes on a CRJ). Also, in February 2005, BJC hosted an Air Canada Jetz A320 that had been chartered by U2 for the Vertigo tour.

Also, don't forget to visit our forums, Where we discuss everything from what made Jason's face turn red to all the different ways Eric has messed up a photo! Ok, we don't do much of that, but we do like to discuss what's coming in, what used to be here back in the days of yore, the different editing and in-camera techniques we use, plus any issues concerning the site get discussed as well. We also have a great News section, as well as our own Articles in which we discuss historical and current issues concerning aviation in the Rocky Mountain region. Thanks for coming, enjoy your stay!
